The Struggle Continues…

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I’m still making headway in cleaning up my place. :) The Super Bowl is only a few days away, but I think I’ll make it. Just don’t ask me to do anything on Saturday. Or Sunday morning. Or Sunday afternoon…. ;)

Go Patriots!!

SUUU PERRRRRR BOOOOWWWL!!

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Yep. Still undefeated, and going for their 6th Super Bowl appearance, and hopefully their 4th Vince Lombardi trophy! The NFL said this couldn’t happen in the age of parity, but the New England Patriots defeated the San Diego Chargers 21 - 12. The Patriots have won 18 in a row and are still undefeated!

Even as I blog, the New York Giants are playing the Green Bay Packers to decide who will play New England in Super Bowl XLII. Green Bay is ahead 17 - 13. Hang on. Giants just scored a touch down! Now they have the lead at 20 - 17. Stay tuned… :)

Congratulations to coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots on winning 18 games this season (so far)!! See you in Glendale Arizona baby!

Say It With Me…SE - VEN - TEEN!!

As Springsteen sang, faith has been rewarded. New England’s office got their game on in the second half. Two more touchdowns and a field goal put New England up 31 - 20. An interception thrown by Jacksonville cinched it for the Patriots.

The Jaguars gave New England a run for their money. The Patriots had to step up their game against Jacksonville, and they did.

We know New England will be playing in Foxoro next week, we just don’t know against whom. That will be decided by the San Diego - Indianapolis game tomorrow afternoon.

I’m hoping the Chargers will beat the Colts. I don’t even want the Colts to get to the AFC Conference Championship. :)

Halftime At the Division Playoff Game…

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Man, I love the NFL Things looked sketchy after the Jacksonville Jaguars scored on their opening drive (a BIG rarity for New England to let that happen). But my New England Patriots came back strong and scored a TD on their first drive to even things out.

Then the Jags lost their momentum with a fumble that the Patriots recovered. That turned into another touchdown for New England that put them up 14-7.

So far so good. Then things took a turn for the worse when New England got hit with a 15 yard penalty for a facemask. That allowed Jacksonville score again and tie it up.

New England got the ball back and started a long drive down the field, but just couldn’t deliver. Jacksonville’s defense kept the Patriots at bay. A chop block gave New England a 15 yard penalty, which took them out of touchdown range. A field goal attempt went far right. The Pats held the Jacksonville off on their last drive, and the half ended tied at 14.

New England is going to need strong defense if they’re going to win this one. Their offense appears to be OK, but Jacksonville’s is just as strong. New England is also going to have to watch the penalties, which have been a problem for them for as long as I can remember.

Keep the faith true believers…

PERFECTION!!!!

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

As Springsteen once sang, “Faith will be rewarded”.

The Pats and Belichik got their act together for the 2nd half and won their 16th consecutive regular season game. This is the first time any NFL team has had an undefeated season since the NLF went to a 16 game season. The 1972 Miami Dolphins only had a 14 game season, but went on to win the Super Bowl, for a total record of 17-0.

Folks, this is a great day for me. What a difference a year makes. My team has gone undefeated and I’m in love with a wonderful woman! It just goes to show. Stay in the game. It’s what I told myself when I was clubbing. Now I don’t have to go clubbing anymore.

Of course, I have to salute the New York Giants and Eli Manning in particular for putting up a hell of a fight. They played great football the whole 60 minutes and really caused the Brady Bunch to step up their game.

Congratulations to the New England Patriots and Bill Belichik on their undefeated season! Enjoy your week off. We’ll see you in two weeks for round two of the playoffs!!

Oh, and to the Miami Dolphins: Guess you won’t be enjoying champagne this year. Or any other year, for that matter. The Pats broke your record. I’m going to do some celebrating of my own. It’s not champagne, but it will do! ;)

Halftime and Patriots Are Losing…

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

…and frankly, they deserve to be losing. It’s 21 - 16, Giants, and the Patriots defense appears to have forgotten that the game was TODAY! They are being outplayed by New York in nearly every area. Manning has all the time in the world to execute. The worst of all has to be that Patriot poking the eyes of one of the Giants. If the refs had caught that, it would have been an ejection, let alone a penalty. I hope Belichick tears him a new one.

But I must point out the classlessness of the Giants’ fans. They are cheering their hearts out for one reason: to deny the Pats a perfect season. The Giants are already in the playoffs and have NOTHING to gain by beating New England, except to say “Hey, we stopped the perfect season!”. Jerks.

If the Patriots don’t get their feces together NOW, they are not going to have a perfect season, and may not make it to the conference championship.

That said, the Pats have come from behind before, and with a lot less than 30 minutes to play.

I STILL BELIEVE!!!

NFL Caves…Final Game To Be Broadcast on NBC, CBS

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

Looks like the ongoing war between the NFL and most cable providers took an unexpected turn toward the least likely participant: the fans.

The NFL was broadcasting selected games on their own NFL Network, using these games as leverage against the cable companies to carry the network as part of their packages. Most cable and satellite companies offer the NFL Network, but not as part of the basic package. Some don’t offer it at all. The NFL network wanted the cable companies to offer the network as part of their basic packages, but didn’t want to come down on the price they were asking.

Enter the final regular season game for the 15-0 New England Patriots vs. the playoff locked New York Giants. Looks like Bill Belichick is going for the record. If the Pats win on Saturday night, it will be the first time in the history of the 16 game season that an NFL team has gone undefeated (the `72 Dolphins had a 14 game season). The fans wanted the chance to witness history, and they didn’t want to be held hostage by either the NFL or the cable company. After receiving millions of complaints, the NFL relented and will allow the Patriots/Giants game to be broadcast on the NFL network, as well as CBS and NBC. This is the first time a regular season NFL game will be broadcast on 3 networks.

Mind you, I’m a free market supporter all the way. The NFL had every right to restrict broadcasting of this game to their network. I admire the NFL for relenting “just this once” and letting the fans witness history. Sometimes the little guy wins when he gets together with 999,999 of his closest friends. It’s going to be a heck of a night.

Home Sweet Home (field advantage)!!

Congrats to the Pats! The best team in the NFL extended their record to 14-0 with a 20-10 victory over the Jets. Weather played a big part in this game. The Jets should be thanking their lucky stars for the snow and the ice. Otherwise, the Brady bunch would have killed them, and probably “run up the score” for good measure!

The Pats are now the #1 seed in the AFC playoffs. Take note, Peyton. You want to go to the Super Bowl? You’ve got to go through Foxboro!

It’s a pity that Miami could not have also extended their streak, but somehow, the fish managed to win one today.
Goodness. I would not want to be the Ravens coach about now :(

At any rate. I’m looking forward to seeing how BB will handle these last two games, since there is nothing left to be gained by winning. Does he rest and protect his star players, or go for the perfect season?

Time will tell…:)

2? No. 6? NO! 12? BAKER’S DOZEN!!

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

I told you that I’m crazy for those Patriots, cousin!

Congrats to the Patriots, who managed to get their collective feces together after two lackluster performances against the Eagles and the Ravens and spank the Steelers.

Thought I heard something about a “guarantee”? :) Well I guess Pittsburgh thought they could afford to brag a little. After all, didn’t Philly provide the “blueprint”?

Guess they must have been holding the plans upside down! :)

Enjoy the 13-0 record, lads. The worst of the regular season is over. You got a bye week!

Make It A Dozen! (but barely)

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Like so many other fans of Pat nation, I’m ticked. Don’t get me wrong, I would have preferred this over a loss to a 4 - 7 team, but the Pats are starting to stink up the place. This surprises the heck out of me. The end of the season is drawing near, and the Pats have nothing sown up, but 1 playoff game at home. I don’t see a ‘w’ or a ‘z’ next to their name in the standings.

Given the kind of coach Bellichick is, I’m surprised the Pats would play this badly, given the near loss to another crappy team the week before. Surely they must realize that they can’t coast, not without Pittsburgh and Indy breathing down their necks.

The Brady Bunch are going to need to get their collective feces together promptly if they hope to have any prayer of beating Pittsburgh this Sunday.

I take it back, I would have preferred to lose to a 4 - 7 team than to have the Steelers close the book on this streak. I hate all things Pittsbugh. Any of my Grove City compatriots know why.

I’ll take the win, but I’m nervous about Sunday. We’ll just have to wait and see.
