19 Miles, 3 Hours, 45 Minutes, 29 Seconds

Well, don’t get too excited, I didn’t run all of it. Here’s how it went down.

Mile 0 - 17 - Run
Mile 18 - Walk. Stop and sit down. Twice :(
Mile 19 - Scrape together whatever you got left down in your guts and run (more like fast shuffle) the last mile.

So basically, I ran 18 miles with 17 of them continuous. Just slightly better than last week, and not where I wanted to be at this time. But with me only having one short run this week, not too bad. Plus I have a few “explanations” (read: excuses) for not reaching my goals.

It was raining. Not the whole time I was running, not even most of the time, but enough to soak my clothes. No hard math to back it up, but I was probably a few pounds heavier carrying those wet clothes around.

I was running in brand new shoes. I went to this specialty running store “The Run In” in Rocky Hill, CT. Mark was very helpful. I brought my current pair of shoes (New Balance 757’s) to ask about some unusual wear on the inside of the shoes (as in all the cloth and foam wore away down to the plastic shell). Well, as it turns out, my pronation wore away the outer sole down to the midsole on my right shoe (which may explain the pain in my right hip!).

New Balance doesn’t make 757’s anymore, so Mark showed me an upgrade “the Cadillac” he called it! :)
So out the door with a pair of New Balance 1224’s. They fit great, and had even better support in the forefoot than the 757’s. I got 10% off the shoes too! Thank God! They had a Cadillac sticker price too! ;)

So how did new, better shoes negatively impact my performance? That was my first run in my new shoes. Not a good idea to break in your shoes with a long run! Plus I had left the original insole in them, which my good friend Tom said not to do. Now I remember why! New Balance insoles always start to slice into my foot on the inside edge. I got a blister now :(

At any rate. If the weather is ok next weekend, my blister goes away and I stay healthy, I should be in good shape for my last LONG run of 22 miles. Then I’ll have a 2 week taper, then it’s the marathon. Woo hoo! The end is in sight! Good thing too, because this training is getting old fast :)
