I hate to sound like Andy Rooney, but…

If you read the comments to many online news stories these days, particularly those that pertain to Britney (do we even need to use her last name at this point?), most if not all the people responding will say some variant of “Who cares?”, “This is news why?”. Either that or “It’s all Bush’s fault”. You know these guys. These are the same ones that always post FIRST! in the comments section. For reasons known only to them, people will love to tell absolute strangers things that are NOT important to them. It used to be that web site operators (excuse me, bloggers) would write about things that at least they cared about. Now we have online news media writing about things that no one cares about, with everyone else commenting back about the depth of their apathy! For the amount of “not caring” going on, there certainly is a lot being written Much ado about nothing? Who knows.

I for one may not “care”, but I can at least have a passing curiosity. It’s getting bad with Brit. Really bad. Being committed to the psych ward is a step up from the usual 30 day “spa” treatment in Arizona.

Now, I’m nowhere near as committed (pun definitely intended) as the freak who’s “Leave Britney Alone” post on YouTube garnered over a million hits (editors note, Red Embers’ video is up to 263 views!, About 250 are from me), but man, maybe we need to give the poor woman a little space here? The stalkerazi are a big part of the problem. Didn’t they kill princess Diana? Has the outrage disappated? Unfortunately, the end users who create the demand are also part of the problem. I’m talking about those people who buy Star magazine and watch TMZ, even for “kitch value” (oh, didn’t I mention? I only watch TMZ because I’m post-post-ironic. I’m a hipster you see. I set trends).

Sorry for the rambling, but I haven’t posted in a few days and I need to stop the bleeding.
