Just finished alphabetizing several hundred of my CD’s this morning. So what do I do this afternoon? I go out and buy a CD. I’ve got to manage my projects better.

Anywho, I bought Ringo’s new album ‘Liverpool 8′. Suffice to say, if you like Ringo, you’ll like ‘Liverpool 8′. If you don’t, you won’t. ‘Liverpool 8′ is arguably Ringo’s strongest album in years. The title song (co-written with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, who also produces the album) is worth the price of admission. In the title song, Ringo sings to, and about, his old hometown, name dropping Rory Storm (his pre-Beatles bandmate) and of course, John, Paul and George. ‘Liverpool 8′ is Ringo’s most heartfelt song in years.

The rest of the album is more familiar territory, with most of the other songs co-written by Ringo’s songwriting partner, Mark Hudson. The closing track, however, is another nice surprise; a country flavored tune about pursuing spirituality ‘R U Ready’.

All in all, another strong album in a series of strong albums from the musician many call the luckiest in the world? Is Ringo the best drummer in the world? Was he even the best drummer in the Beatles? Who knows? Who cares? Even if luck got him into the Beatles, his talent and charm kept him there until the end, and earned him a solo career Don Henley could only dream of.

‘Liverpool 8′ is a strong buy for any music portfolio. Once again, Mr. Starkey has passed the audition.
