I downloaded the 2008 Powerpack a few months ago and tried to install it. It was a great big mess and a time waster. I lost an entire weekend trying to get the darn thing to install, much less work!
One thing I did NOT do before installing was the checksums. Maybe I just had a bad download. I’m a bit wiser (and greyer) from the experience. Next time I’ll do a checksum to make sure the download is good.
Linux. It’s as free as your time. Apparently my time is dirt cheap.
But I’m not swayed. The geeks shall inherit the earth!
I’m still making headway in cleaning up my place. The Super Bowl is only a few days away, but I think I’ll make it. Just don’t ask me to do anything on Saturday. Or Sunday morning. Or Sunday afternoon….
No, not The Daily Show host. To be frank, I never heard of this guy until he died. Then again, that’s the mainstream media for you. Nevertheless, this guy has left an indelible mark on popular music.
In the 1960’s Stewart was part of the popular folk group The Kingston Trio. Stewart left the band to pursue a solo career, pioneering “country rock” or the “Americana” sound that I love so much.
But Stewart will probably be best known for writing the Monkees’ hit “Daydream Believer”. Those who know me know I love the Monkees almost as much as like Dylan (I know, I’m weird, I heard). I’ve always loved the Monkees’ version. Truthfully, it’s the only version I’ve known.
Until now.
Check out this YouTube clip of one of John Stewart’s final performances. As you may expect from a folk singer turned country rock pioneer, Stewart’s take is slower, more melancholy. He truly turns the song on it’s head, and gives it a whole different spin. After a few listens, I like Stewart’s version just as much as the Monkees.
Even though your stock is in the toilet. This may shock the heck out of everyone who knows me, but there are times when I am optimistic. This is one of those times. Or maybe its my contrarian nature that makes me stick with it.
I scraped together what cash I had left in my brokerage account and upped my position another 25%. I wish I had done it a few days before when this thing was in the low 30’s, but I managed to get some at 40. I’m already up a little on it. Overall, though, my BAC position is costing me my shirt. But market downturns are normal and healthy. Look at them as buying opportunities.
Remember folks, when the market is in shambles, that’s when you’ve got to start buying, and that’s what I’m doing. I’m all in, baby. It’s no different than retail shopping, there’s a sale going on, and everything is 30% (or more in the case of the financials!)
Keep the faith folks. It’s going to be bumpy, but our economy will survive, the sun will come up in the east and Christmas will still come on December 25th.
Yep. Still undefeated, and going for their 6th Super Bowl appearance, and hopefully their 4th Vince Lombardi trophy! The NFL said this couldn’t happen in the age of parity, but the New England Patriots defeated the San Diego Chargers 21 - 12. The Patriots have won 18 in a row and are still undefeated!
Even as I blog, the New York Giants are playing the Green Bay Packers to decide who will play New England in Super Bowl XLII. Green Bay is ahead 17 - 13. Hang on. Giants just scored a touch down! Now they have the lead at 20 - 17. Stay tuned…
Congratulations to coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots on winning 18 games this season (so far)!! See you in Glendale Arizona baby!
As Springsteen sang, faith has been rewarded. New England’s office got their game on in the second half. Two more touchdowns and a field goal put New England up 31 - 20. An interception thrown by Jacksonville cinched it for the Patriots.
The Jaguars gave New England a run for their money. The Patriots had to step up their game against Jacksonville, and they did.
We know New England will be playing in Foxoro next week, we just don’t know against whom. That will be decided by the San Diego - Indianapolis game tomorrow afternoon.
I’m hoping the Chargers will beat the Colts. I don’t even want the Colts to get to the AFC Conference Championship.
Man, I love the NFL Things looked sketchy after the Jacksonville Jaguars scored on their opening drive (a BIG rarity for New England to let that happen). But my New England Patriots came back strong and scored a TD on their first drive to even things out.
Then the Jags lost their momentum with a fumble that the Patriots recovered. That turned into another touchdown for New England that put them up 14-7.
So far so good. Then things took a turn for the worse when New England got hit with a 15 yard penalty for a facemask. That allowed Jacksonville score again and tie it up.
New England got the ball back and started a long drive down the field, but just couldn’t deliver. Jacksonville’s defense kept the Patriots at bay. A chop block gave New England a 15 yard penalty, which took them out of touchdown range. A field goal attempt went far right. The Pats held the Jacksonville off on their last drive, and the half ended tied at 14.
New England is going to need strong defense if they’re going to win this one. Their offense appears to be OK, but Jacksonville’s is just as strong. New England is also going to have to watch the penalties, which have been a problem for them for as long as I can remember.
Well, it looks like Ron Paul lost my vote. Looks like a Ron Paul newsletter had been published for decades that contained various racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic remarks. Paul claims that he did not write those statements and the offending statements do not reflect his beliefs in the slightest. I’ll take him at his word on that. Paul further excuses himself by claiming he was “not paying attention” to what was being published in his newsletter. While that may be true (would you claim such Richard Hatch-like ignorance if it weren’t?) it makes it hard to vote to give this guy the keys to the nation. Sorry dude, I need my Presidents a bit more involved.
All the Ron Paul supporters need to seriously question their support for this guy. One David Duke is embarrassment enough for the Republican party.
The field is mighty slim pickins this time around. Anyone got Ross Perot’s number
