Moronic Politician of the Day Award
…goes to Congressman Pete Stark (Democrat from California, surprized?). Today, Congressman Stark was on the house floor lamenting their inability to override President Bush’ veto the expansion of the SCHIP program. Congressman Stark had this to say:
“You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.”
No matter which side of the aisle you’re on, you have to find this particularly disgusting on a number of levels. Representative Stark’s remarks trivialize the suffering that our soldiers are going through in the Middle East. Moreover, the suggestion that anyone would be amused by a soldier’s death, let alone their Commander In Chief, is especially repugnant.
Naturally, Republicans are outraged. However the silence on the left wing is deafening, though not surprizing. What if these words were spoken by a Republican on the House floor against a Democrat President? Dems would be up in arms and we’d never hear the last of it. Where is Air America, Daily Kos and MoveOn.org? Don’t they have anything to say against this man? Oh, that’s right. If you hate Bush, you can say anything you want.
And Congress wonders why their approval rating is 11%.
