8 - 0!!! Bring On Indy!!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

OK. Well, the Pats didn’t lose. Unfortunately, neither did Indy, so it looks like this Sunday will see nothing less than Super Bowl 41 1/2. Indy are 3 point underdogs. Can you imagine? Undefeated, playing at home, and you’re underdogs.

This should be a game to remember. Hopefully fondly :)

Marathon Aftermath

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I’m still taking 4 Aleve’s a day. That’s probably more out of habit than anything else. I get pain in my knee now if I twist my leg the wrong way. Maybe I should keep up with the Glocosamine Chondroitin? At any rate, there is now 4 weeks to go until Thanksgiving and the Manchester Road Race (4.75 miles, cake!). That’s going to be a huge party if the weather is good (or even if it isn’t)! Hope I get another beer for that last mile!

I can’t help but feel a little sorry that my running career ended with a limp, literally. I still don’t feel ready to give up the races. I don’t want to do another marathon, since I already did that. What to do for 2008? May that run for 24 hours gig ;) Now THAT would be something! Then again, maybe I could just try for a 50 miler or something like that.

7-0!!

It just keeps getting better as New England took apart Miami this past weekend. Seems that New England is the team to beat this year.

Unfortunately, Indy also has a perfect record. I was hoping they’d lose to Jacksonville, but no such luck. Here’s hoping that someone takes out that perfect record before the New England vs. Indy matchup on Nov 9.

Moronic Politician of the Day Award

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

…goes to Congressman Pete Stark (Democrat from California, surprized?). Today, Congressman Stark was on the house floor lamenting their inability to override President Bush’ veto the expansion of the SCHIP program. Congressman Stark had this to say:

“You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.”

No matter which side of the aisle you’re on, you have to find this particularly disgusting on a number of levels. Representative Stark’s remarks trivialize the suffering that our soldiers are going through in the Middle East. Moreover, the suggestion that anyone would be amused by a soldier’s death, let alone their Commander In Chief, is especially repugnant.

Naturally, Republicans are outraged. However the silence on the left wing is deafening, though not surprizing. What if these words were spoken by a Republican on the House floor against a Democrat President? Dems would be up in arms and we’d never hear the last of it. Where is Air America, Daily Kos and MoveOn.org? Don’t they have anything to say against this man? Oh, that’s right. If you hate Bush, you can say anything you want.

And Congress wonders why their approval rating is 11%.

6 and 0, with 10 to go!

OK, so maybe the Pats won’t go undefeated this season. It would be a waste of their starters if they did. If he’s smart (and he is), Belichick will pull his starters after clinching home field. But that’s a few weeks away. For this weekend, I’m just looking forward to the Pats killing some Dolphins.;)

Still Recovering

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

I don’t think I did any permanent damage, but whatever damage I did to my right leg on the 6th was made worse by the marathon. I’m definitely in pain. Not soreness, but real pain. My left leg ain’t so good either from having to bear most of my weight for 26.2.

That reminds me. I signed up for another race! Not a marathon, mind you, just the Manchester Road Race. 4.75 miles. 1 huge party on Thanksgiving morning.

I had a great time running last year as you can see by this post:

Manchester Road Race 2006

The best part? I’ve got plenty of time to rest and heal before the race. Hopefully someone will beer me for the last mile!

DID IT!!! 26.2 Miles - 5:56:26

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

I’ll write more later, but suffice to say, I did it. I’m mostly happy that I crossed that finish line. With my injury from last week, I had no business running a marathon yesterday. Thankfully my plan worked: Do as well as I can in the first half so I can build up a buffer against the 6 hour time limit to use in the 2nd half if I need it. I was limping while running the entire first half. At the 13.1 mark, I was at about 2:35 (which is what my brother did at Virginia Beach last year, on two good legs!). I was pleased with that, so I thought I’d spare myself doing any more damage and walked the 2nd half of the race. Good thing I did. I had pain in both legs by the end. My right leg’s injury was exacerbated , and my left leg was tired of bearing all my body weight.

Do you know what they call the med student who graduates last in his class? DOCTOR!!

I still finished the race. Not the way I would have liked, but at least I can put that 26.2 Euro sticker on my car! ;)

go.

Today’s the Day

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

It’s midnight in the small town. Today is the day I will compete in my first marathon. This is a post-dated post by the way. God willing, I’ll be fast asleep at this time. All I really want is to cross that finish line. After training for 6 months, I just can’t not try, and I would be kicking myself if I quit before I finished the race.

Send some positive thoughts my way if you can. I’ll try to post after the race & let you know how I did.

Still Limping…

Friday, October 12th, 2007

After staying away from running all week, I tried running a few feet between my garage I my condo this afternoon. I still have to limp. Not looking good, but miracles rarely happen early. I still have discomfort when walking. At least I’m not in huge pain like I was last Saturday.

If I can just stay under that 13 minute mile.

Pray for me.
