My first race of the year…

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

And the marathon season officially began this past Sunday, March 4. I ran a 5K down in New Haven: The WPLR Shamrock and Roll 5K. After running a 1/2 marathon this past Labor Day, I wasn’t too scared about a measly 5K. Unfortunately, due to work being so busy, and me just plain not being motivated, I hadn’t trained in the 2 weeks prior to the race. Neverthless, I ran and had a great time. That’s why I do it. I suppose I could be categorized as a “beer runner”. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m just as competitive as anyone else out there. It’s just that I’m competing against myself. I ran the thing in 29 minutes, 7 seconds. Out of 818 runners, I placed 458, placing 70th in my division of 114. Now that I look at the numbers. That’s not really that good. That’s a 9:23 mile according to the website. I’m definitely going to get back in shape. That’s what I intend to do. I got a 37 week program off the internet, and I’m ready to go. Unfortunately, there’s less than 31 weeks to go before the marathon in October, so I’ll need to pick it up past the beginning. No matter. I’m a runner. I will run.
