Well, it’s not looking promising. Out of the 13 women who were at the event, I was interested in seeing 7 of them again. The remaining 6 I said “No Thanks”. So far, it looks like 5 women are interested in talking with me further.  Of those 5, I was interested in 1 of them. She actually already sent me an email (cool!). Still, even 1 match is better than none. The lady that wrote me seemed very nice. I’ve already written her back. I’ll keep everyone posted!

Go speed dating, go speed dating, GO!

Tuesday, March 13th, 2007

So I went to a speed dating event last night. Was pretty cool. I must admit it was well worth the 1 hour drive each way…on a weeknight. There were 7 women I was interested in talking with further. Will any of them be interested in talking with me? Well, a few are already. So far there’s one mutual match. Nice girl. We’ll see what develops.

Mad shout out to my friend Scott in VA. Semper Fi! Sorry in advance for not posting in awhile. I’ve got a few projects in the works that I need to devote time to, not to mention work.

I’ll try to keep the world updated ;)

R.I.P. Richard Jeni 1962 - 2007

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Good heavens. It must be true about celebrities dying in threes. I just happened to be scanning Google news stories, and saw that comedian Richard Jeni is dead at 45 from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

I said in my previous post that we only have a limited time in this life. And death, while not the end, is very permanent.

We can only speculate on the reasons why Jeni did what he did. For whatever reason, it’s a terrible tragedy. He should have got help, talked to someone; reach out to his friends.

Now, his friends and family get to pick up the pieces, and try to get on with their lives.
Life is short enough. There’s no need to end it prematurely. As Tyr often says on the crap sci-fi series “Andromeda”, “Where there’s life, there’s hope.”

For what it’s worth, Richard Jeni was damn funny.

R.I.P. Brad Delp 1952 - 2007

It wouldn’t be a BoormanBlog post without mentioning death now would it?

By now, you’ve heard that the lead singer of Boston was found dead in his home in New Hampshire. I’ve never been a Boston fan, and I’m not about to start now. One thing is true, though, the man had talent. His voice was a critical part of the band’s success. To my knowledge, he didn’t engage in the kind of rock star behavior we usually see from Axl Rose. From everything I’ve read, he was an all around nice guy. The news reports all say there was no indication of foul play. It doesn’t appear that drugs were involved. Most likely, this was just a freak heart attack or something.

Right now Bob Dylan’s “Not Dark Yet” is playing on my Xclef. Kind of eerie, kind of sad. All this just goes to show that we don’t know how long we’ve got on this mortal coil. We’d all like to live to a rip old age, but as we can see, that’s by no means guaranteed. One day we could go to sleep and just not wake up. I’m in pretty good shape, but so was Jim Fixx. So was Buddy Holly. As a musician and runner, things like that are never too far from my mind.
Taking a wider perspective, it appears the whole world is in its death throes sometimes. Culture celebrates violence, self actualization and earthly goods instead of those things that are eternal, free and, in the long run, bring real satisfaction and joy.

It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there.

Ready to run…

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

So the marathon training guide I found on the internet is supposed to take 37 weeks. Problem is, there’s only 31 weeks left to the marathon, so I’m picking it up in the middle of week 6.

I was too tired to get to the gym Friday morning, so I went Friday evening before heading up to Northampton. Well, it was late on Thursday night when I was looking at the training guide. I was supposed to run 3 miles, but I ran 4 by mistake. Talk about going the extra mile!

Today called for running 6 miles. I decided to keep with the treadmill since I hadn’t run outdoors in months. Plus this would have been the most I’ve run (probably) since the half marathon last year. My goal was to maintain an average speed of 6 mph. At about 2.5 miles, I was getting winded, but I had run at 7 mph for a few minutes, so I took it back down to 6 mph. At about 4.5 miles I was even more winded, and now feeling some nausea. I had a little slack time built in after running at 7 mph for awhile, and took the speed down a 1/10th of a mile per hour each minute, down to about 5.3 mph. I ran at 5.3 for a bit, but I didn’t want to get behind too close to the end, so I began to take the speed back up 1/10th of a mile per minute.  I got back up to about 6.5 for a bit, then had to take it back down before I puked. I’ve got to start eating better on weekends! :/

At any rate, even while thoughts of compromise were going through my head, I still made it. 6 miles in a few seconds less than an hour. Burned 729 calories! Yeah, I don’t think those calorie counters are too accurate either. Still, it’s a great accomplishment. I can’t wait for the weather to warm up here in CT, so I can get back to running outside so I can really get to training!

I wish I was on the…. N17!!!

Going up to Northampton, Mass. tonight to see one of my favorite bands, The Saw Doctors. Picture the Irish version of Bruce Springsteen and you’ll get what I mean. Heck, I’m barely even Irish, but I still have a great time. Their shows are lively spirited and joyful. You never see bands actually having FUN anymore. It’s all angst. Feh. Life is depressing enough, thank you very much. I don’t need a soundtrack :)

After the show in Northampton? Well, if there’s time, maybe I’ll head back into Hartford for a little clubbing? You never know ;)

BUT FIRST! I’m off to the gym to run 4 miles on the treadmill. Then a quick shower and I’m on the road.

Now playing on my Xclef: “They Don’t Know” by Tracey Ullman.

That’s right. I like that song. So sue me.

A Red Embers reunion?

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Well, we never really broke up. Funny how life gets in the way sometimes. Life got in the way for all of us the past couple of months. We haven’t played publicly since Jan `06, and haven’t rehearsed in months. but tonight we got together for our first rehearsal of 2007, and it was all there in black and white: it’s Red Embers all over again :) Funny how it music never leaves you. Just like riding a bike! We opened with “Pressing On”, and a cover of the Newsboys’ “Woo Hoo”, and finally “True Grit Feel” (one of our unreleased gems! ;) )

Looking forward to getting together with the lads again, and hopefully playing out again soon!

Doubling down on CWTR…

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

So Coldwater Creek has plummeted since I got in at $26.40. Finally at $18.30, I decided to double down. Then the stock went down further. I’m hanging in there, not ready to give up just yet.

Good thing too. Looks like Coldwater is standing by their earnings guidance. Stock was up $0.46 today, and another $0.32 in after hours trading. Heck, if things keep going well, I just might break even! ;)

A vague update…

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Well, it nearly official. I’ve almost bought on a condo. Offers been accepted, but we still need to iron out a few details first. I’ll post more as soon as I can.

Johanna’s back!

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Not her real name as you know, but I went to the club (big surprise!) a few Saturdays ago, on 02/24. I went in, got my Bud Light, and waited on the periphery for the crowd to shuffle in. After a few beers, I got up the courage and made my way around the floor, dancing with whomever I could get close to. It got close to about midnight. I was kind of disappointed, thinking I wouldn’t see Johanna that weekend.

And there she was! Always good to see her. We said hello. I talked with her and her friend for a bit. I asked her about her week (not that great, she was sick), and we headed out to the dance floor for the rest of the evening :)

Nothing else really to report. Just a good time with a nice lady.
