If these areas are being considered seriously, I'd highly recommend picking up a pistol of some sort. Does nothing for the equity of the house, but let the neighbors know you have it and it'll save you more money than you'd spend on ADT. I have ADT on my house to keep people (kids) in, not keep others out. The one gun I have left keeps unwanted scourge out just fine. But then, I'm a dumb Texan, so what do I know???
