Getting my sexy on…

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

There’s really something to be said for staying in the game. So I’m at the club last night. Of course, I arrive early so I can avoid the cover ;) I saw this beautiful young woman sitting in a chair all by herself. I hardly ever ask women to dance, but this woman just looked friendly and beautiful. She looked like she wanted to dance, but didn’t want to get out on the floor by herself.

Somehow, I got over my shyness and took her hand. We danced for a few songs, traded smiles, even got each other’s names. Soon, she needed to take a rest, and it was over. We didn’t dance again that night, but we traded smiles across the room the rest of the night.

I actually thought about leaving early, but I thought I’d stick it out. Later on, another woman came up and started dancing with me. She thought the shape of my head was cute (!) Would they have danced with me if there wasn’t a bar and the lighting was better? Maybe not.
Dancing with two women on the same night. I know for most people that’s nothing.

So what? You may ask? So I’m feeling like a pimp right now, that’s what. ;)

My shirt still smells like perfume. I’m wearing it now.

Stay in the game.

“Sneaky” Pete Kleinow - R.I.P.

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

So I’m a little late on the death notices lately. ;) More sad news on the music front. “Sneaky” Pete Kleinow, whose pedal steel sound helped blaze the way for the country rock movement of the 70’s through the Americana movement of the 90’s, passed away last weekend at 72.

Kleinow was a founding member of the Flying Burrito Brothers with former Byrds Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman. Kleinow also enjoyed a 30 year career as a session musician, playing on albums by such luminaries as The Rolling Stones, John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Ringo Starr, Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt.

Recently, Kleinow formed his own band with Garth Hudson (of The Band) called Burrito Deluxe (names after the Flying Burrito Brothers’ second album). Burrito Deluxe’s 2nd album “The Whole Enchilada” is a low key classic, and should be obtained at all costs.

Sadly, last year Kleinow was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and soon checked into an assisted living facility. It is sad to see such great musicians of the 60’s and 70’s leaving this mortal coil. Unfortunately, as time takes it’s toll, this will only increase. I’m certainly not looking forward to waking up to the news that Mick, Keith, Paul, Ringo or Dylan have died. All the more reason to enjoy these legends in concert while we still can. So what if the Stones charge an arm and a leg? They’re worth every penny when you consider prices for the Future Love Sex Sounds or whatever Justin’s tour is named.

Good music is good for the soul. The opportunity to see it live is a treat. When you look at the world today, with corruption, violence, and depair running rampant, and trace the decline of music, you can’t help but see the correlation.

Steve Irwin, R.I.P.

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

I seem to focus a lot about death on this blog. Hmmmmm

Anyway, when we were in Virginia Beach over Labor Day weekend, my brother came out to the beach from our hotel to tell us that CNN was reporting the death of “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin. Steve was a conservationist at heart, which I deeply respect.

His sense of adventure, his sense of humor and commitment to the earth and all its creatures will be sorely missed. The world is a sadder place without him.

It is with this in mind that I offer the following tribute to his memory.

Went to a computer fair yesterday and got me a 2nd 250 Gig hard drive. Also got me my first graphics card. A Geforce 6200. Pretty chintzy, but it’s better than nothing. Still having some issues with it. I have multiple cursors on the screen it it moves too fast. Maybe a tweak to the drivers?

I also didn’t get to put my 3rd hard drive in. I need another ATA ribbon. Oh well, I’ll get it in a few weeks.

As if you needed another reason to love Linux

Link to a great article about why Linux loving men are sexier. This is probably new for some of you, but for those of us who use that alternative operating system, well….we knew it all along. Now all I need is a lady to prove it to :)

Saw ‘Rocky Balboa’ tonight with a friend. It was just what the doctor ordered. Stallone created an American icon, and this movie was necessary to take the character home. Say what you want about “too many sequels”, this is one you should see. See this iconic character in all his glory on the big screen. Now.
More than a fitting closure for the character, however, this movie was full of great life lessons. One line of dialog that particularly moved me was in a scene between Rocky and his estranged son. Rocky Jr. blames his father for his not fitting in with his co-workers. He blames his father for “casting a big shadow”. Rocky tells his son that only cowards blame others when they’re not where they want to be. Rocky tell his son “The world is not all sunshine and rainbows. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there if you let it.” Then he gives his son this bit of advice:

“It’s not about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and still keep moving forward.”

This week, I got hit. Hard. Twice. With God’s help, I’m going to keep moving forward.

Is it hot in here?

Ahhh the brutal New England winter. It’s the first week of January, and we hit a record 72 degrees today. Think I’ll work on my tan!

Purgatory by the boob tube lights :(

So I taped the 2:00 - 3:00 AM portion of Dick Clark’s “Rockin’” New Years Eve to see if they’d replay Dick Clark’s send off of 2006. It was sad to see the shape he was in last year, and I wanted to see if he had improved any. Well, they didn’t replay it (probably best). But I did get a live performance of Meatloaf singing “I Would Do Anything For Love”. [FYI: Meatloaf is one person, NOT a band]

Anyhoo, I consider myself a casual Meatloaf fan. Saw him twice in concert, front row for one of them!!! But this performance was awful. Age has certainly took it’s toll on the man’s voice. He can’t hit the high notes like he used to. His voice is very thin and weak.

Should have stopped with Bat Out Of Hell II.

Mark February 6 on your calenders. I’m going on another Match.com speed dating event. This one’s in Danbury, which is quite a haul for me. At least this one’s a freebie. Will this be the night? Only time will tell!!
