Gerald Ford, R.I.P
I’m too young to have any memories of him as president, of course. I think it’s a little too soon to be summing up how history will remember him. My two cents is: he may not have had the best policies at the time, but he had the necessary character to get the nation past Watergate. He put it very well at his swearing in ceremony: “I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your President by your ballots, and so I ask you to confirm me as your President with your prayers.”
Of course, one could say Ford’s policies, as well as his pardoning of Nixon killed his chances of reelection, and paved the way for my favorite President, Ronald Reagan. But that another post
