What are you doing New Year’s Eve?

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Another year (almost) over. A new one (almost) begun. Still not sure what I’m doing tonight. I’m sure I’ll find something to do ;)

New Year’s is traditionally a time to take stock, review the year past and make plans for the future. I’m happy to say that I’ve accomplished all my goals for 2006. Can’t wait to see what I can accomplish in 2007!

Wishing you all a very safe and happy New Year’s and a prosperous 2007!

Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving dictator. He got the justice his victims never received.

Gerald Ford, R.I.P

Friday, December 29th, 2006

I’m too young to have any memories of him as president, of course. I think it’s a little too soon to be summing up how history will remember him. My two cents is: he may not have had the best policies at the time, but he had the necessary character to get the nation past Watergate. He put it very well at his swearing in ceremony: “I am acutely aware that you have not elected me as your President by your ballots, and so I ask you to confirm me as your President with your prayers.”

Of course, one could say Ford’s policies, as well as his pardoning of Nixon killed his chances of reelection, and paved the way for my favorite President, Ronald Reagan. But that another post :)

La update D’amour…..

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

I was looking over old posts and discovered I never updated everybody on my speed dating. Obviously, nothing happened. There was only one woman interested in me that I had expressed interest in. I emailed her the day after the speed date, and again a few days after. Match.com says neither of my emails have been read. Try as I might, I’ll never understand why people express interest, and then don’t follow through. I always make sure that I’m curteous, even when I’m not interested. To ignore emails is just plain rude. Is it too much to expect that a woman behave like a lady and be polite? Needless to say I wasn’t happy about being given the brush off, and made sure Match.com knew about it. I’ll give them credit. They made good and my next speed dating event is free.

It only goes to show that I really am an optimist at heart. I’ve fallen off the horse so many times no one could blame me for giving up. But still keep getting back on the horse. I’m either optimistic or masochistic!

Less than 3 months until Valentine’s Day. Oh goody.

Get anything good for Christmas?

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

I was blessed to get some really nice things from my family. Not the least of which is the ‘new’ Beatles album ‘Love’. Normally I avoid Cirque del Soleil like the plaugue, but since the Beatles provided the soundtrack, I’ll make an exception ;)

For those who don’t know, original Beatles producer George Martin and his son Giles “remixed” a bunch of Beatles songs together, combining one part of a song with another, mixing slow and fast, late 60’s with early 60’s.  It really puts a new spin on the Beatles music. I highly recommend it. Then, if you haven’t already, buy every original Beatles album. You won’t be sorry!

‘Star Time’ is over :(

Monday, December 25th, 2006

One of the brightest stars in entertainment has gone dark this Christmas morning. At 1:45 AM today, Soul Brother Number One, James Brown passed away of pneumonia. He may have made more headlines from his bad behavior than from his music in recent years, but one cannot deny his influence and talent.

It is especially unfortunate to loose someone of real talent in the entertainment world, where the Brittneys and Justins continue to dominate.

May The Hardest Working Man In Show Business now rest in peace.

Everyone here at BoormanBlog wishes you and your family a very Merry Christmas. Yeah, that’s right. I said Christmas, now go call the cops. :)

Remember, folks. The whole reason we have this holiday is to celebrate the birth of the savior; who would buy our ticket to heaven with his death. Let’s take a few minutes today to ponder such a loving sacrifice?

A great article in the Weekly Standard

Saturday, December 23rd, 2006

Expectingrain.com linked to a great article in the Weekly Standard about Bob Dylan and how he’s not what most people think he is; but then again, isn’t that part of his appeal ;)

Only the good die young…

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

…and Warren Zevon was very, very good. Never heard of him? Not surprizing. Or maybe you heard the name, but not the music.

So for all you fans of Britney Spears and My Chemical Romance and other crap, I’ll dumb it down for you. You ever heard that song that’s played ad nauseum on the radio “Werewolves in London?”. OK that’s Warren Zevon. Never heard “Werewolves in London?” Then you probably never turned on a classic rock radio station in your life and you’re beyond help. :)

Normally, I eschew “Greatest Hits” albums, but pick up “Genius: The Best of Warren Zevon”. You’ll understand that Zevon was much more than “Werewolves in London”, and most of his stuff was way better. There’s so many great songs on that album. Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead. Splendid Isolation. Raspberry Beret (recorded with a Stipe-less R.E.M). Roland The Thompson Gunner. Boom Boom Mancini. All wonderful.

Then pick up his final album “The Wind”. Recorded while he was dying of cancer with the help of friends like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty. If the final song “Keep Me In Your Heart For Awhile”, doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, you have no soul.
