For the nutritionally challenged……

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

I’m no dietitian, but I’m pretty sure my poor performance today was due to my “dinner” from last night. I finally decided to finish off the cake my family gave me to celebrate my M.B.A…..in May 2005. Hey, it was in the freezer. Still tasted good. Isn’t that a wedding tradition? Save a part of the wedding cake and eat it on your first anniversary? Still tasted good, but probably not nutritionally sound. Just another way of extending my “victory lap”. Can’t believe I worked for 3 years for that degree. Don’t know how I made it, but I did and I’m proud.

Mmmmmm year old cake!

From now on, though. No year old cake during training!!

Number 9, number 9, number 9, number9….

OK. I finally managed to get out and run this morning. Unfortunately, my alarm didn’t go off (I usually disarm it on weekends). Didn’t get to the gym until after 7:30. By that time the sun was well on it’s way to baking everything in sight. I mangaged to run for just about an hour and had no energy left. I got my 9 miles in, but I ended up walking half of it.

Pedometer

I’m starting to think my pedometer isn’t registering all my steps. It didn’t take me much longer to walk the last 4 1/2 miles than it would have taken me to run. Probably my posture is leaning too forward when I run. The angle of my hips must be causing the pedometer to skip a few paces now and then.

But hey, as my friend Nelson said. Don’t minimize your success. Next time I’ll try for 9 miles again, and next time I’m gonna run it!

I’ve got about a month and a half until the marathon. I’m liking my progress so far. I just hope my knees hold out. Back up that glucosamine chondroitin truck!

Special shout out to my brother. Hope your training is going well!

Better not forget it on your shopping list…

Bob Dylan’s new studio album “Modern Times” will be released on August 29th. Clear your calenders!

Heat wave…

OK. So what’s my excuse this time. Well, I couldn’t sleep very well last night, thus no chance of getting up early this morning for a 2 hour run. Thought I’d make it after work, but a relative convinced me NOT to run today since it’s 90+ degrees outside and I would surely die. Well, given how I feel after running on cooler days she may not be that far off. :)

Looks like it’s tomorrow morning then. Hopefully I can get my running in before the day heats up. Maybe a little cleaning around the apartment too? Dream on… ;)

Yuk.

Some of these OnStar commercials are a little sickening. I just heard one during that has a (presumably) grown man gushing about how he is “so in love with OnStar”. Having a man-crush on a person is a little weird, but a man-crush on a gadget? That’s just disturbing.

Finally made it back…

Made it to the gym this afternoon for a light lower body workout. None the worse for wear. Might try to get back to the gym tomorrow morning to go running, but I’m not looking forward to working a full day immediately after. :(

Booyaa!

This man is so darn cool it makes me sick. I need his sound effects as a soundtrack to my life…

Nah….It’s raining.

Thought I’d get to the gym to do a lower body workout today, but my heart just wasn’t in it. Actually it was my legs that weren’t having any of it. :) Besides. It’s raining.
Tomorrow is it, though. Lower body workout tomorrow and trying for 9 miles on Friday. It’l be a run riot!!

Run like hell (for Syd)…

After 8+ miles of running yesterday, I’m taking it easy today. Legs and knees still hurt like crazy. But I’m ‘Pressing On’. I will get that free beer if I have drag myself across the finish line by my elbows!!

I took this in March. My (then) new running shoes and polarized sunglasses. I look like the Terminator!

Took this photo in my bathroom mirror, right before I started my training regimen. I wonder if I’d still do it if I knew all the pain my legs would go through. :(

R.I.P. Syd Barrett

OK, I’ll admit it. I hate Pink Floyd. I like maybe two of their songs, and theyre both from the post-Waters years. There I said it.

I do have a copy of Roger Waters doing ‘The Wall’ live in Berlin around 1990. Got it off ebay for $0.75 …and $5.00 shipping.  Only bought it for the Van Morrison and The Band appearances. Good stuff.

Anyhow, perhaps Syd has finally found peace. He will be missed. Syd
